If you’re reading this you have something niggling you about yourself that you want to overcome. You have goals and a dream. You have a direction you want to take your life in but there’s something holding you back from getting over that hurdle and you’re the only person that can make the change happen. I know the feeling of wanting to change for the better but falling at that moment you need to be resolute and steadfast upon your goal. Well, you’re about to enter a new year and with a new year a point in time that we can all point to for demarcation is found.  I’m sure getting into the best shape of your life is amongst the goals you have which is why you came to Criterion Fit to bring the inspiration and knowledge your way!

Being determined is good, being motivated is great but having discipline in check is the deciding factor on the scales of success when it comes to making your health and wellness goals a reality. Discipline with the self is the hardest thing because the soul calls for its needs to be met and will do all it can to turn you away from a disciplined path in-order to get what the soul wants at that time; and there’s always something that it wants you to do or get. Mankind is created weak and in need but with discipline the body, heart and mind become strong enough to control urges.

Welcoming the new you is far more important to you than anyone else. Everybody has their issues and things to work upon but the majority of people won’t go that distance to change for the better because coasting through life, doing what works has worked so far; so why reshape the building when it’s still standing. Destroy and rebuild sounds good but takes work, work that the majority aren’t prepared to do. Japanese wisdom has a term called Kiazan which means continuous improvement. This way of life when applied to your life will see you take control of the bad aspects of the self and work to change for the better but you need a straight forward plan that will help you to make the changes needed.

In 2026, inshaAllah, and going forwards – something I’m doing and encourage you to try is to break your year into 12 weeks. Have you heard of the 12-week year? I’ll be listening to the audio version of that book again! But to be short, set all the tasks and short-term goals you have into that which you can achieve over 12-weeks, then set new goals to achieve after that block. It’s like your gym training cycle which lasts the same amount of time. Take a deload week to see what worked and what didn’t, where your direction is headed and discipline to stick to the tasks and get them done is hanging in the balance because of the deadline you’ve set for yourself.

If losing 5kg is a goal, that would mean reducing calories and increasing exercise consistently over that 12-week period which will see you achieve much more that weight-loss in that time. You’ll have found discipline to train regularly, determination to set a goal and stick to it which improves your feelings about yourself, you’ll look better and move better and be self-motivated to get after all the goals you set for the next cycle of 12-weeks.
