I’m new to exercise what should I do to get healthy

Some keys to getting in the best shape you’ve been in for a long time.

When one’s new to exercise or returning to exercise after an extended period of time it can be hard to get started but the sooner you put the trainers and tracksuit on, the sooner you’ll start to see change within yourself and reap the rewards of your hard work and dedication. There is no quick fix when you go the route of exercise, just sweat and soreness but the pain of tiredness soon abates as you become accustomed to training and your body physically begins to adjust to your new way of life.

Like many men I’ve had my time with smoking tobacco and that is over but the temptation is always there. Likewise, for the person that chooses to eat highly processed foods the temptation is always there but when the goal is greater and the determination is firm then one can only find success over time and beat the addiction they once had. And yes, you can be addicted to highly processed foods which is why the obesity situation in London and the UK is at proportions unknown.

Once you’ve committed to training with the intention it’s important to put a plan into action to ensure you see change and achieve the goals you’ve set yourself. Goals are important because specific goals that can be measured will lead you to the target faster than training without a plan or any assistance. If one fails to plan they plan to fail as the saying goes! An idea would be to train in the gym three days per week for 1.5 hrs each session, using equipment recommended by a personal trainer in the gym and one training session with the personal trainer at home or in the gym on a weekly or 2-weekly basis.

One your training is sorted out it would be a good idea to look at your diet with open mindedness in relation to the food you want to reduce and the new foods you’re interested in trying that are recommended, healthy, promote the attainment of your fitness goals and so on. Macronutrients are Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, Alcohol and we also need Fiber in our diets as well. We need varying amounts of them all minus the Alcohol, a Mediterranean, Keto, “Fakeaway” diet are just some of the diets/food purchases/menu courses people with weight-loss goals will employ/eat on a regular basis to turn the flab into fab. The diet itself doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the person needs to fall into a calorie deficit to lose weight by burning more calories (energy) than they consume. When this is done over time weight-loss is achieved and conversely, for the person that wants to gain weight they should consume more healthy food, increasing their calorie count and adapt the way/form of exercise they do to help elicit weight gain (in the form of muscle usually).

Rest and recovery is also important to the body so one will want to sleep and rest adequately so their muscles recover from training without bringing about too much soreness. Sports supplements like pre-workout will also be best avoided on days one plans to train at night because they can affect sleep after the session. Massage guns, saunas and herbal tea are things that can be added into a lifestyle to support relaxation and rest just as much as a comfortable bed and pillows help.

Remember the process will be a bit of trial and error and there are no perfect physiques so have balance in your goal to get into shape. That’s what ‘Being the Criterion’ is about! Being balanced, strong and agile, quick and attractive and the best of oneself. Allah ta’ala, God created us in the best of statures with his own hands, we are in control of our destinies by way of the effort we put in now because later may end sooner than expected. So why do all this when we are going to leave this world except to leave this world in the best state after striving with wealth, health, heart and soul to be the best of oneself. When one lives this way Allah ta’ala, God the blessed and most high is more likely to give that person an increase in life because they live in obedience to him from many angles.
