Who?
Hanif George N. Tagoe started his fitness coaching journey in 2017 with a Fitness Instructor course organised by top fitness educator Future Fit. Building consistency in his training a year prior to the course, Hanif found life’s stresses and his mental health was improved through training. Hanif advocates the benefits of fitness for anxiety, mental ill-health and stress.
Back in the day…oh no!
As a youth, he had regular Asthma attacks when running and playing in school however that didn’t stop his desire to engage in sports. ‘I was in the football and cricket teams, playing and winning the London Schools Trophy 1995 and meeting the current King of England on the Warwickshire Cricket pitch, playing at The Oval and Lord’s Cricket grounds also.’
In his teens however, the allure of music culture and making friends quelled his desire for everything connected to physical activity except sports wear clothing. ‘At 14 years old I was a troubled youth, my form teacher told me if I wasn’t careful, I’d end up on the other side of the fence – the mental hospital, which came to be reality.’
Blessings all around us!
By the year 2012, right around the time of the London Olympics, Hanif was focused on learning the Islamic faith and had married. The balance he was seeking began to appear. Reaching out to a school-friend, he would go to the gym and follow his lead because although he always kept a gym membership he knew little about training and from the way the sessions went his friend had little more than Hanif.
‘We knew little about training but I liked the setting and potential for self-improvement the gym gave. I didn’t realise the level of dedication needed to maintain a fitness lifestyle.’
Training Clients and Group Coaching
Hanif has coached various class styles while working for High-street gym chains and likes to see clients and members achieving their goals, hitting targets, and feeling good about themselves.
‘Kettlebell training is a training style I’d recommend to everyone because it’s possible to train at home and kettlebells don’t take up much space.’
Hanif is also a suspension training certified coach, recommends bodyweight work and cardio training since they all have a place within the personal training programmes he prescribes for clients.
‘You can expect training sessions that will push you, teach you and motivate you to be the best version of yourself each day and that’s how you become the criterion. Why I named my business as such is because the goal is to empower clients to be the deciding factor between healthy, fit, strong and not. When a client shares their gained knowledge and word of mouth passes around more members of that community become the criterion, good health will become infectious to put it bluntly.’
Hanif also understood early that nutrition plays a role in wellness and vitality so he took on the Future Fit nutritional course so he could understand how food effects his health and that of his clients. ‘Fitness, a good diet, health and vitality are hugely important in my life. I’m passionate about how eating well and regular exercise can increase and support the extension of life and the ability to move to ones’ fullest potential by the permission of the most high, strong and wise.’
Hanif works together with clients to consolidate knowledge as well as debunk misconceptions and erroneous beliefs as it relates to exercise and nutrition so clients can achieve goals, gain strength, live longer, and share knowledge with family and friends, which has an exponential and beautiful effect on families and the community in general.
‘To begin with, going to the gym was out of wanting to feel and look better to myself and for my wife, to better manage health through physical activity and so on, but as I gained more knowledge around fitness training and then nutrition, I began to see just how important exercise and nutrition are and how a host of health issues can be avoided.‘
‘Be the Criterion is about being the one to beat, the level that everyone else needs to step up to. The services on offer are for clients that have the heart to push themselves and achieve great things!’
